End the War and Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza (UPDATED 5/6)

Updates

May 6, 2025: The Israeli government has approved plans to capture the entire Gaza Strip, with a stated goal to “entirely destroy” the area. This expanded military operation will force Palestinians to relocate to a designated humanitarian zone controlled by U.S. private security officers. Israeli officials assert that they may hold off on this operation if a hostage deal is reached during Trump’s visit to the region next week.

May 3, 2025: Israel has been deliberately blocking all humanitarian aid from entering into Gaza since March 2nd, 2025. According to the UN, Israeli authorities are currently blocking nearly 3,000 trucks loaded with life-saving food and medicine from entering Gaza, in direct defiance of international law as provided in Article 55 of the Geneva Convention. An Israeli drone also attacked humanitarian aid ship ‘Conscience’ in the Freedom Flotilla in international waters off Malta, leaving it stranded and incapable of delivery. Meanwhile leaders in Germany, France, and Britain have called for unhindered aid to be allowed into Gaza, where civilians continue to be killed by not only sustained bombing, but devastating and deliberate famine and lack of medical care and resources—with mothers and children hardest hit. We must demand that our representatives in the US government—Israel’s closest and most powerful ally— use their voices and power, and exert maximum pressure upon the Trump administration and Israel to allow life-saving aid into Gaza immediately.

Despite a tentative ceasefire proposal initiated in January of 2025, the devastating war and humanitarian crisis continues in Gaza. On March 18th, the Israeli government launched surprise attacks that killed hundreds of Palestinians and multiple United Nations workers, and renewed aggressive ground operations to occupy more land. Additionally, on March 31st, Israeli troops executed 15 Palestinian medics who were clearly identified as such, buried them in a mass grave along with their ambulances, then plowed it over with military bulldozers. Israeli officials have made it clear that their primary goal is the occupation of the Gaza Strip, not the return of the hostages.

The United Nations has also sounded the alarm about Israel’s blockade of humanitarian goods and supplies into Gaza, warning that the population is now on the brink of famine. The foreign ministers of Germany, France, and the UK released a statement demanding that Israel adhere to international law and allow passage of aid to go unhindered. The Trump administration, however, has continued to support the Israeli government with offensive weapons and military equipment and has floated the idea of expelling all Palestinians from Gaza to develop the land under US ownership.

The United States cannot continue to fund and supply the Israeli government with weapons while it continues its atrocious attacks on Gaza, blocks humanitarian aid, and violates international law. Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) to block the sale of offensive U.S. weaponry to Israel have been introduced in the House. Demand your members of Congress support this necessary restriction and pressure the Trump administration to work towards a fair and durable ceasefire deal that protects the people of Gaza.
