Oppose Trump Attorney Emil Bove for Federal Court Judge
Trump has nominated Emil Bove, one of his hush money trial criminal defense attorneys, to serve as a federal appeals court judge on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. When Trump took office in January, Bove was named acting deputy attorney general in the Justice Department where he immediately weaponized the DOJ to retaliate against Trump’s perceived enemies and defend allies. He ordered the firings of Jan. 6 prosecutors, threatened to purge the FBI and prosecute local and state officials who pushed back against Trump’s mass deportation agenda, and dropped the corruption charges against NYC mayor Eric Adams. Several New York attorneys resigned over this decision and alleged a politcally motivated “quid pro quo” agreement between Adams and Bove.
On June 24th, the New York Times also reported that Bove has been a key voice in the Trump administration’s decisions to defy court orders and ship immigrants to foreign prisons. Erez Reuveni, the career DOJ lawyer who was fired after admitting in federal court that the Trump administration mistakenly deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia to an El Salvador prison camp, filed a whistleblower account of Bove directing DOJ officials to “ignore” any court orders that interfered with their deportation operation, a shocking violation of legal ethics.
Despite Bove’s insistence that his goal is to end the weaponization of the DOJ, he has done the opposite and aided the Trump administration’s repeated, unconstitutional defiance of court orders. His clear disregard for the rule of law makes him resoundingly unfit to serve a lifetime appointment on our federal court.
